Normal retainer fee

What is the name of your state? California

Is a $5000 retainer fee standard for the services of a divorce lawyer (San Diego) or should I shop around? Thanks.

Depends on if you're hiring F. Lee BAiley or Joe Schmoe. There is no "right" answer to that question

$5k is steep for a divorce lawyer retainer in my opinion.

Is your case complicated?

Maybe the lawyer doesn't really want your business but will take the case for the right amount of money.

It really depends on the circumstances of the situation. The more complicated it is, the higher the retainer.

If you had to deal with Californians you'd charge the same.
