NY Divorce question

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

We live in New York and want a quick divorce. No kids or house and we want to split our joint financial accounts 50/50. this would be a friendly divorce.

If we do an online divorce and one of us accepts the "At Fault for cruel and inhuman treatment" what could the downside of that be? We don't want to wait the 1 year required for a no-fault divorce.

One spouse is an alcoholic and that is at the root of the divorce but we would rather not mention this in the divorce papers if possible. How specific must we be in a description of the cruel and inhuman treatment?

And, if we were to just do a legal separation for a year does the separation protect one spouse from the others insurance liability? Such as one being sued for a car accident? Or are we still linked?

Thanks very much.
