Pension Split

What is the name of your state? Maryland

I read the article titled 'Deferred Compensation, Retirement Plans & Divorce' and have a question. I am currently separated. My Property Settlement Agreement does not mention any pension for my spouse, although she has been employed by the Federal Government for the past 4 years. At the time we formally separated, she mentioned that the pension had no value since she was not vested. She does not contribute to this pension and is 46 years old. The article mentioned above states that I have claim to the 'future' value of the pension. How is that determined?
