I have a "Family Law Status Conference" scheduled for jan 15. I live out of state and have run out of money to pay any more legal fees or travel. I'm in the process of negotiating a settlement with her attorney and actually got a copy to sign today.

Do I still have to appear for this date? Can I postpone or cancel it?

Thanks in advance for your help. Little stressed.

Q: Do I still have to appear for this date? Can I postpone or cancel it?

A: What did her lawyer say when you asked him if he would agree to that in writing?

He will not respond to the question, have asked about it a few times. He does not return my calls, only answers by email and often not until weeks any many tries later.

Then make a motion to the court for a continuance stating your grounds.

Will it be granted?

I don't have the slightest idea.

I am assuming you have a computer.

Do you have paper?

Do you have a printer?

Does your town have mail service?
Lol. Yes, I have the above resources. Date's coming up fast. Would I even get an answer by then? And what could happen if I don't show? Just out of curiousity.

Write a letter and send a copy to the other lawyer.

Explain in clear and plain English very simply what you want and why. Make sure you inform the court you sent a copy to the other lawyer.

I don't what will happen if you don't show.

If I knew that, I'd be at the casino.
