pre-marital lottery winnings

My father won a substancial amount of money in the indiana lottery around April of 1996. He was then married in June of the same year. The marriage has deteriorated, and he is considering divorce. He has requested my help in gathering information. I am wanting to know if the winnings from the lottery became common property between he, and his new wife, after they were married. He receives payments from the lottery office on a weekly basis, and will for about another 14 years. Thank you for any info that you can provide...

If the winnings were from before the marriage, then no.

However, if he has some money that he received from some of the payments, and he parked it in a joint bank account or bought something that would be joint property, then that might be subject to division.

His future checks based on the pre-marriage win should be his 100 percent.
