proof of service needed???

I'm trying to help my Dad out with his long awaited divorce...He was just served with the dissolution of marriage papers today. I have his response filled out, but was wondering if i had to send along a proof of service paper as well?
Also we are going to ask for spousal support. what are the odds here? he makes nothing, she makes it all. thanks for any help!

Why are WE asking for spousal support? What makes you believe you are entitled to anything in re: the divorce of your parents?
