In the middle of a divorce after being married for 24 years. Wife and I have agreed to the vehicles we wanted - both were in my name, and both were paid off. I kept the small SUV and she got the F250 as she requested. The F250 has been transferred out of my name and into hers.

I'm wanting to get a different vehicle, on an even trade - no exchange of money, no loan. The vehicle I'm looking at has a slightly lower market value than my current one, but fits my needs better. Are there any problems with this sort of thing?

You should wait for the divorce to be final.

If done pre-divorce, the exchange vehicle will still be marital property. If you want to take the risk that it will end up as your sole and separate, go ahead. I wouldn't.

Suppose the engine blows in the pickup and she pleads to the court that she is in desperate need of the only remaining family vehicle?

Of course the same could occur with no trade. But if so, you would have put yourself to unnecessary trouble.
