Questions

What is the name of your state?CT
My husband and I have been separated for over 2 yrs. Nothing to split because we did it 2 yrs ago, do have 1 child. Would like to do this with lawyers. Where do I find a list of all the forms I need to fill out. I found the state of CT form site but don't Know all that I need. Hopefully this is going to be uncontested. Want to get this over with. Been sitting on the fence too long, nothing is going to change with stbx.
thanks t

I don't live in your state, but in mine (California) the online forms for family law have the words "family law" listed after them and you can look through them for ones that seem appropriate. I just checked the CT family forms and if you can't get any cooperation from your ex, you will probably need the summons and the divorce complaint. There's a form that if you could get him to sign, looks like it would simplify matters and that one's called divorce/dissolution of marriage agreement. Don't forget the summons.

Fill them out, make a copy or two of each filled out form, and use the trial and error method, it works for me: Take them to your local courthouse and try to file them. If they're not right, the clerk will reject them, but usually when that happens she/he will give you a hint what's wrong, and if they say you have the wrong form, ask if they'll give you a copy of the correct one.

Once you get your papers filed, then what are you going to do? I think it's commendable that you want to do this yourself, but there's a whole lot more involved than just filling out a few forms and with a child involved, it's a lot more serious if you make a mistake.

If you don't want to hire an attorney because of the expense, at least see if you can speak to a one or two, many offer free consultations, there are law schools that offer legal clinics, some lawyers will take payments.

It's commendable that you want to do it yourself, and it's not impossible, but it's a LOT of work to learn what you'll need to know. I'd start off with clicking on every single link on that court website and reading EVERYTHING pertaining to family law.
