What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Nevada, how long should it take to serve someone with divorce papers. That reside in California, It has been 5 and 1/2 weeks at this time and still the servers says nothing yet? They said he is avoiding service, can this be happening?

Well...sometimes a judge will allow service by publication in a situation like this one...

That would take a pretty extreme situation. It sounds like OP knows where stbx lives, so justifying service by publication would be an uphill battle.
