What is the name of your state? NJ

If a person inherits money, jewelry, or other items of value during a marraige, are those things subject to division in a divorce?
TIA,
Msim

In general....

gifts and inheritances are considered separate property and therefore not subject to either "equitable division" or "community property division" in the case of community property states. I *think* if you convert your "property" (jewelry, furnishings, stocks, etc.) into cash and then co-mingle these funds in a joint account, then it could be subject to "equitable division". I'd check this with a lawyer, however, if you're talking about a substantial inheritance.
