What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Wisconsin

If someone is a current resident of WI, but his spouse moved to AL and later filed for divorce there, when can the resident of WI remarry legally? Is he bound to the state he resides in (WI has a 6 month restriction) or the state the divorce was filed in (AL is 2 months)?

Once a divorce is GRANTED, it doesn't matter what state the divorce is granted in - it applies everywhere. Just filing for divorce is not sufficient though. He needs to wait until the divorce is final - decree issued, judge's signature, filed with the court.

Then, in just a couple of states, there is a waiting period before you can remarry. (As you've stated, Wisconsin is 6 months). He will be required to follow the waiting period for the state where he remarries, NOT the state where the divorce was issued.
