What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? OHIO

Any legal or other disadvantages to being legally separated but residing at the same address (single unit house, but on separate floors)? Am not looking to settle any financial or custody issues with this, but to just take the first step in the process, and to step out from the label of "legally married."

If you are separated, you are still legally married. You are not legally unmarried until a divorce is final.

I doubt that you can be legally separated without dealing with financial and custody issues, but Ohiogal can give you a more definitative answer on that. I am sure she will be around to your thread in a reasonable amount of time.
