Several questions on divorceHow long do you have to be married in New Mexico to receive alimony? How can I receive help to afford a lawyer? |

In MOST states, one can reasonably request rehabilitative (short-term) spousal support after marriage has lasted at least 10 years. Quote:

Typically 10 years in NM. HOWEVER, it's not automatic. The spouse requesting it has to prove that they need it. |

I've got over a dozen years of marriage, and I would not be eligable to recieve ANY SS. Not short term, not rehabilitative.

| In some rare circumstances there could even be alimony for a short term marriage. The basic point that everyone is making is that there is no hard and fast rule.

Simply having a marriage, regardless of length is not itself a REASON for SS.
