My friend was divorced in 2004 after a marriage of only 1 1/2 years. He purchased a home for he and his wife (and her 3 children from 2 other marriages) without any financial contribution from her. During their separation, in addition to other financial gifts, he signed the deed over to her completely at her insistence, under duress and in hopes of keeping the marriage together. She immediately filed for divorce and within months re-married and moved out of the home, keeping it for investment property. He lost a tremendous amount of money from this and wonders now if there is any way to recover this loss from her

He gifted her the house. He gave her a very expensive gift. That is not her fault. Duress -- how was it legally considered duress? He is upset about the gift because she didn't get back together with him. Well he made a bad choice. He needs to get over it. He could have fought for it in the divorce as marital property -- even after gifted to her -- but he chose not to.
