She moved out-then she got a lawyer! My wife of 16 years announced she didn't want to be married anymore, and just moved out. We have 2 daughters, and have agreed on a shared custody arrangement amongst ourselves. It was to be a "separation", and we "wanted" to keep it friendly, agree on the issues ourselves, and let the lawyers just finalize it. We weren't going to see any attorneys yet. Exactly one week after she left, I find out a sheriff is looking for me to serve me divorce papers. She claims there are no boyfriends, but then again, she said she wasn't going to see an attorney yet either. Is there any advantage to her filing, vs me filing? Should I avoid being served until I see my own attorney? Should I hire a private investigator to see if there is adultery, and if so, how does this affect my rights? We have a new home, that I don't want to give up, and she claims not to want. We are also deep in debt, and she left me with all of them. I have business that I'm trying to sell right now, to be able to settle any accounts and pay off the debts. Besides being hurt, angry and afraid, I could really use some advice right now. |
