What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? WY
My son is trying to file for divorce but his wife says she will not sign. He cannot afford nor does he need to have an attorney because there are no children involved. Does he have to get her to sign the papers or can he file without her signature?

If she won't sign, then he is going to have a contested divorce. In all reality, that means that he probably needs an attorney...particularly if there are any significant marital debts or assets.
