I HAVE BEEN IN THE PROCESS OF DIVORCE FOR 2 YEARS. MY X WANTED IT, WOULDN'T MOVE OUT, OR FILE, SO I FILED FOR DIVORCE, IN MARCH 2006.
HE FINALLY MOVED OUT DEC. 28, 2005. WHEN I FILED OUR TAXES LAST YEAR,(MARRIED FILING SEPERATE) MY ATTORNEY SAID WE HAD TO EQUALIZE OUR REFUNDS ( FOR 2005 )
MY QUESTION IS, SINCE WE HAVE LIVED SEPERATELY ALL OF 2006, DO WE HAVE TO EQUALIZE THE REFUND FOR 2006? OUR DIVORCE SHOULD BE FINAL IN 2 WEEKS (FEB 2007) THIS YEAR I PLAN TO FILE HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD AS I HAVE A 14 YEAR OLD SON LIVING WITH ME. THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP...What is the name of your state?

You were still legally married on Dec 31st, 2006 and therefore your tax advice from your attorney is probably still valid.

When You Equalize Your Tax Refund Is It Just The Federal Return ,or Do You Equalize State And City As Well? I Pay Extra To Fed And State All Year Then Have To Pay To The City I Live In (1/2 Of What I Paid To The City I Work In)
He Gets A Pension Which He Has 3000 K A Year Taken Out, But Owes Big To The State Every Year, But No City Tax Owed. I Am So Confused- I May Have Done It Wrong Last Year! Help!
