What is the name of your state? California

What do you do when you can't locate the person you are trying to divorce? Can you still file for divorce? How can the person be served if you don't know where to find them? And if they do get served and don't respond, what is the next step? Any advice?

The person can be served by publication. Ask your lawyer for details.

Is this something that can be done without a lawyer? I'm actually helping a friend who doesn't have an attorney. It's a pretty simple uncontested divorce, he just can't find the woman.
