Where do I even begin?

What is the name of your state? CO
I am currently separated within the last month and know we are headed to divorce because of a lack of love. What is the cheapest, easiest, and fastest way to go about this? I don't want it to get ugly because of the children's sake. We are currently on speaking terms and have already set up an informal custody arrangement that seems to be working. I have been told there are ways to go about this inexpensively, since we do still get along somewhat. My biggest concern is the children. Any advice will help. Thanks. What is the name of your state?

Until your rights to parenting and support are established by a written court order, you are heading for trouble down the road. If the divorce and custody are truly uncontested, hire a lawyer specializing in such for a nominal fee to ensure that the paperwork is drawn up correctly. Otherwise hire a lawyer and have him/her get started with filing based on the terms you want.

re:

i am not an attorney and I am in a situation like yours to some degree. we both know divorce is the answer but he says he doesnt want one.

but I have a suggestion for you. our local Chancery Clerks office said that if we were in agreement that we could come in and look at some divorce cases that were not contested and copy one of them and type it up with our information and file it for about $35.00. you may want to check this out in your city and state. it did nort help me because of my husband but it may help you and your spouse.

best wishes and good luck.

That is exactly what is going on with us. I will try the Chancery Clerks office. I'm quite sure it will be uncontested because we are in agreement that we don't want it to get ugly because of the children. I think we will be able to come to agreeable terms on our own, rather than paying a lawyer big bucks just to sign papers and to try to drag it out as long as possible. That is one thing we still agree on, unnecessary spending and keeping others out of our personal business. Thanks you so much for the suggestion. It is a starting point and it is more than I knew before. I just don't have a clue about this whole process and everyone has such different opinions.
