What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Alabama
A friend's boyfriend beat her in the face and leg causing severe bruising, bleeding and swelling. She signed a warrant and he was arrested and bailed out. The charge is listed as Domestic Violence 3rd (Assault 3rd). We have found out that this is his 8th arrest for the same charge in the past 6 years. Other previous charges include Criminal Trespassing 3rd and 1st. This guy has children by several women born this year...terrible character! He is planning on pleading not guilty and stating that he was defending himself (although that's a lie and he has no evidence of harm). The woman that filed the first 7 charges (which he was found guilty) has sent a letter to the City Prosecutor along with prior arrest records and a copy of her restraining order against him. If he's found guilty this time, what is likely to be his sentence?

Nobody can say with any degree of certainty.

(Except the judge in the case)

You criticize the guy's character but YOUR friend CHOSE to be with him. Says a lot about her character as well. And this is still her boyfriend and NOT ex-boyfriend per your post. A letter to the City Prosecutor is not going to do much coming from someone not connected to the case.
