What is the name of your state ? (Nevada)

Isn't it against the law to just up and walk away from helping a loved one, someone who depended on them for help?

When you report it to officials aren't they obligated to do something?

What are a doctors obligations? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

How about explaining what it is that you're talking about. The situation involved and the ages of the parties are needed to offer any sort of judgment.

Generally, the only legal duty of care to a loved one would be to a spouse or minor child. That care usually is for what the spouse/child cannot provide for himself/herself.

If your spouse or child is drowning you have a duty to rescue him or her. If your brother or uncle is drowning, you can sit by and watch.

Probably a troll. If it were really concerned about a situation regarding abandonment, it would have left more information.

I forgot why I had left these forums, now I remember.

What is the definition of elder abuse?

Elder abuse is an umbrella term that may include physical, sexual, or emotional abuse; financial exploitation; and neglect in providing necessary materials like food, shelter, or clothing to avoid physical harm or mental illness. The abuse might also involve withholding medicine or refusing to arrange transportation for doctor appointments. While damage inflicted by physical abuse may be obvious, frequently the abuse is emotional or psychological, resulting in humiliation, intimidation, and fear.[1]

Now really, how is ANYONE meant to "guess" what you're talking about?

Instead of copying and pasting something that might be gleaned from wiki (instead of being a state-specific definition), why don't you actually tell us what's going on?

If you feel an elder is being abused, immediately call the elder abuse hotline in your state.

If they have left and refused to care for the person, that is not abuse in the legal sense.

Why respond to a post from October, 2010?

Why not delete it all together, especially since it answers no questions, provides no help, to new posters?

abandoning of an elder

In Nevada Law, and as in most states, the abandoning of an elder that relies on your care is the same as abandoning a child .
