If the protected person calls the restrained person , will this nullify or void the temporary restraining order? Court date is at end of this month.

No. It does not nullify or invalidate the order. but! It can certainly go a long way to convince a court of the party's lack of fear.

Reside In Kern County, California....
just one other question, the restrained person is currently in a mental hospital (paranoid schzizophrenic) . He is due to come home soon and we live together with our 2 children. Do I have to vacate the home, or does he have to find a place to stay??

If the order is valid (with good service) and still in place, the restrained party will have to abide by the conditions. So, if he has to stay away from you, he ain't gonna be coming home unless he wants to go to jail.
