State of Iowa. I have a friend who is wanting a passport to travel to Thailand. He was sent to prision on drug charges, meth, cocaine etc...possesion, selling and using. He served 4+ years for his crimes. I was told by his mother that he lost his U S Citizenship (He was born US and parents U S citizens)

Can he really loose his U S Citizenship? How does one get it back? How long a time will it take to get it back?

Also due to the charges of above on drugs can he obtain a passport at all? And if indeed he has lost his U S Citizenship rights would he be able to obtain a passport just by submitting his U S birth certificate?

Thank you to all who help on this
