Can't Travel to State court is in.

I received a criminal violation from the border patrol in Yuma on I-8 crossing the state. It was for possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. I am 28 and live in New York. I have no way of making it to Arizona and the court won't grant a transfer to a local court. If I just don't show up, how much misery will that cause for me, if I decide to never go to Arizona again? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

alot!! have you talked to the district attorney yet?

are you aware that all 50 states "talk" to each other? crossing the country or a border, doesn't make all problems in that state disappear.

A warrant can last forever. It can prevent access to good employment, can result in law enforcement detentions even if not ultimately arrested, can result in lack of eligibility for public assistance, Social Security, all manner of government supported loans, etc.

Yep. It can cause you some problems.

I was told by the court clerk over the phone I have to appear in person unless there is a medical reason. I do not have the financial resources to travel to arizona and I do not own a vehicle. I can't afford a lawyer to represent me in Arizona. What can I do or whom should I contact.

Greyhound is $107 with a 21 day advanced purchase.

You could also try Peter Pan, Amtrack, and Southwest for starters.

If you do not show up, it doesn't matter who you contact they will issue a warrant.

OP; take note: Court is not one of the "do drop in should you be in town" places...

This is a felony you are looking at. "Not stopping by court" really should not be one of your options at this point. Borrow the money from friends/family if you need to, but my advice is whole heartedly to make sure you make it to court.

Edit: When I say "felony", what I mean is that, depending on the charges issued, it could be multiple felonies. And if it is border patrol, I do believe it's possible that this can escalate to a federal situation, not just state.
