What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NC
Hello.
To make a long story short, I was leaving work, headed to pick up my GF. When I got to the apartment complex where she was, I noticed cops were behind me. They stopped me, and searched my car. The cops found 3 small nickel bags worth of weed, the rest was crumbled. Long story short, the cops pretty much charged me with felonies. one was , intent to sell, and maintaining the vehicle ( deliverance of goods, as I was told). The cop sat me down in his car, and said " look buddy, I can make this easier for you if you tell me who it was you got the marijuana from. If you do that, I promise that this situation never happened, as long as you can give us some intel. Its simple, we'll give you the money, and you buy the weed, thats it. You've got a week to make up your mind, otherwise we'll have a warrant out for your arrest.". Also, might I add, the reason the cop stopped me was because I ran a stop sign, supposedly, but I didn't get a ticket or anything.
How does this work? According to the officer, I am at the mercy of two felonies. Should I consult with a lawyer? or do as the cop said?
Thanks for everything
EDIT: I did consult with a lawyer and what he told me was not to worry about the situation. Saying how it wouldn't be a good look for for the cops to have just let someone go after what they found, and the charges would not fly in court given the small amount of marijuana I had, how it wouldn't fly in court, and stuff like that. The attorney and A friend of my Girlfriend mentioned that what the cop did was highly illegal ( tried to make side deals). The cop didn't make me sign any papers, didn't give me a ticket for running a stop sign ( I was told this was the reason I was stopped). All he did was confiscate my marijuana, and tried to make a side deal with me.
Would any of this actually stick? Can the cop just get a warrant out for my arrest after the fact of everything?"
