Confused about bail bondsman

What is the name of your state?
Massachusetts

The bail bondsman that we are dealing with does not work for the Springfield Police Dept, so would he charge a fee (% of bond being put up) just as an independent one would? In other words, is this bail bondsman the same as any other one that would require a fee?

I've never seen a bail bondsman who didn't charge for his service.
Even the states that have a government run bail bond system (of which I do not believe Mass is one) still tend to collect a fee for the service.
