What is the name of your state? RHODE ISLAND.
A bill passed on Friday that will automatically “quash and destroy’’ any record of a crime for which the accused received a deferred sentence, regardless of the individual’s criminal history or the nature of the crime.
I pled no contest in 2000 and received 5 years probation for distribution of marijuana. My first question is was this a deferred sentence? If not, how can I get my record expunged?

Not deferred sentence, deferred prosecution.

You plead no contest, the judge found you guilty, and sentenced you.

If you are a first-time offender, you can apply for expungement.
