First felony drug charge

My 17-year-old son was just arrested for a felony 3 POSS CS PG 3 <28G DRUG FREE ZONE. This is his first offense. I'm just curious about what to expect as an outcome for him. Is there a possibility we could get the charge lessened to a misdemeanor? Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
