first time possession of marijuana

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Nebraska

last night my buddy and I got pulled over. we weren't smoking or anything but I had marijuana on me and the cop searched and found it. i got charged with possession of marijuana (which is my first charge). just curious of what i should do? I'm 18 and legal adult age in Nebraska is 19 so I'm wondering if I should just pay the fine or go on diversion? Also, I'm at college and trying to handle this without my parents finding out. Thanks in advance

The first offense for an ounce or less is a $300 civil citation. Is that what you got? If so pay it and learn your less on to stop braking the law. There will be serious penalties, a criminal record, and lifelong consequences of a subsequent drug conviction.

yeah that is the charge that i got. so I'm just curious since it is a civil citation and I'm not legally an adult in Nebraska, this will be wiped from my record if i just pay the fine?
