my boyfriend has an arraignment for a probation violation and is also being charged with new charges.he is on informal probation. if he pleads either not guilty or no contest, will he still be taken into custody because of the probation or will he be able to fight the case while not in jail? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

No contest is akin to pleading guilty. There' s nothing to "fight" further, you've already said you aren't going to fight (that's what no contest means).

You forgot to mention what state you are in. However, it's unlikely that being charged while on probation will result in any sort of probation violation immediately. He should however report the arrest as required by whatever terms of probation he is under.
