What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan
Wondering how long after you get caught with possession of a controlled substance can they still charge/convict you?

To charge you: Pursuant to MCL 767.24(6) there is a 6 year Statute of Limitations for: all other offenses.

To convict you: That depends on your right to a speedy trial. You can read more about those rules by following the link below.
