Minor Caught With Under an Ounce and a Scale

Story: Me and 3 other guys were cheefing in the parking lot of a park, boxing my friend's car. Sure enough, bright light cop strolls up on us and has us break the box right in his face. Smoke was pluming out into him, so he asked for the driver and I's license (because my car was parked right next to his). After getting the three passengers out of the car, one of the cops notices the 20 or so grams of weed on the seat of the car and asks whose it was. I said it was mine instantly, and was cuffed and tossed in the back of a car. My car was then searched, where they found a scale and a pipe. There were no extra plastic baggies anywhere. My parents then came and drove me home afterward, and they gave me a ticket for possession or consumption of marijuana.

My question is: Is "Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute" a separate charge? Or is it something that is decided upon at the court date on top of what I'm already charged with? Would definitely love to have a clear answer on this, as it is the difference between a petty offense and a felony. Thanks in advance for the help.

If the cite didn't include anything about distribution, then you haven't yet been charged with it. They have at least a year to charge you with distribution if they eventually decide to do so, but since it wasn't on the original cite, my guess is you won't be hearing much about it.

All it has on the ticket is a check mark next to "Possession/Consumption of Marijuana" -- there are no boxes that include distribution anywhere in it. I also got a piece of mail changing my court date, which, too, simply had the charge of "Possession/Consumption," but I would like to be damn sure for obvious reasons.
