Missouri Marijuana Possesion

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Missouri

I was charged with possession of less than 35 grams of marijuana and paraphernalia six months ago. I have already been to court and was assigned to do 20 hours of community service plus the court fees. I have completed all of that on time.
I was wondering if this is going to haunt me for the rest of my life or is there anything I can do about it now? When all this happened I didn't have a job so I couldn't hire a lawyer and I didn't want my parents to find out. I had already been caught with the same thing before almost a year earlier when I was seventeen and actually had to go to jail for a for few hours. I was assigned to go to a two day drug class and now it is off my record.

Adult convictions are not able to be expunged in Missouri. You're stuck with it.

How much is this going to affect me? What's it going to stop me from doing?

That depends on prospective employers.

When you fill out a job application and it asks "have you ever been arrested" you will have to decide if you're going to be honest - consider that your conviction can easily be discovered during a background check. How old are you now?

A minor marijuana would probably mean less and less to others as time passes and you get older. But this is your second offense and you didn't learn your lesson after the first time. What's to say it won't happen again?

What do you want to do, career-wise?

I'm starting school next year, as of right now I'm going to study philosophy. Then someday hopefully work in the education field.

Philosophy professors are all weird anyway, so it shouldn't affect you

Seriously, don't worry about it right now. Concentrate on school and do as well as you can. You have no control over what happens with future employers, so don't worry about it now. The main thing is to make the most of your situation now and things will probably end up alright for you. Do everything you can to show you're a fine upstanding citizen!

And obviously, learn a lesson and stay away from trouble!
