Question regarding probation for Public Intoxication charge in IndianaI live in Chicago Il but am on 6 months write-in probation in Indiana for a public intoxication charge which is a class B misdemeanor. I have been offered a job in Los Angeles but I need the courts permission to move. I tried to reach my probation officer but she is out of the office and the person I spoke with in the probation office said she didn't think that would even be a possibility. Is it really that big of a deal considering the charge? How can I get thier permission? How bad would it be if I left even without their permission? Thank you |

| Usually, getting permission to have your probation transferred is not the hard part. The difficulty comes when you try to get accepted to the other state. The 1st thing you need to do is get permission from your current p.o. to request to be transferred. Than you have to request for the receiving state to accept you. Quite a few hoops to jump through, job letter, recent address etc... It is not an overnite process most times. goodluck. |

| To transfer, you have to fill out the paperwork with your IN PO, pay the $75 interstate transfer fee, and be current on any fees owed to IN. The PO will submit your paperwork to the IN Interstate Compact, who will them send your paperwork to the CA Interstate Compact. They will forward your application to the LA County Probation office, asking them if they will accept you for transfer. All this takes time. It's going to be AT LEAST 45 days from when you pay the transfer fee before you could conceivably be allowed to move out there. How much longer do you have on your 6 months of probation? Also, since this is a misdemeanor case, the Interstate Compact offices might not deal with it. I do juvenile cases, so I'm not quite sure about the adult transfers. Talk to your PO, but don't get your hopes up.
