We are concerned that our daughter may be in some trouble. Her friend from out of state had recently sent her a card and a check for a necklace she wanted our daughter to purchase for her. She also enclosed (unbeknownst to our daughter) a quantity of marijuana for what she calls a "pinner" type cigarette. Our daughter, who is over 18 and is a very responsible young lady, has told us about this as she is in a panic because it has been four (4)weeks since the card was sent and she has yet to receive it. (We usually get mail from this area within 5-7 days) Short of contacting a lawyer, we thought perhaps we should do some quick internet research.

Is she or her friend responsible? What is the possible offense? Are there associated fines/penalties? How should we proceed? Our daughter has never been in trouble with the law; does that help her case if there is an arrest/charge filed? Thank you.

The girl told her she sent the card with the MJ in it? She won't be in trouble. BUt, if you want to be on the safe side, consult an attorney (criminal defense) in your state and see if there is any way you can curb any possible legal inteference.

Yes, the girl called asking why our daughter hadn't cashed the check. Our daughter said she hadn't received it and that is when the friend told her about the drug. Our daughter had heard it was a felony to receive any type of drug in the mail. Thus the panic ensued. Again, any idea of likelihood of prosecution and if so, what for? Penalty? Thank you so much for your reply.
