What is the name of your state? Mich.
My daughter age 19 has recently been charged with possession of marijuana and an MIP for drinking. (She has had 1 MIP for drinking before, nothing else.) Her story is she was at a party with 10 people, they had been drinking. At 4:00am police arrived, all but 3 were asleep. She woke up the person living there then went to the bathroom. Police burst into the house and burst into the bathroom where she was urinating. When she came out, police went in and found a bowl. They also searched throughout the house. Because she was the last one in the bathroom, she is accused of possession. No marijuana was found, just the scrappings from the bowl. She was the only one to be handcuffed and taken to jail. Can this really be considered possession by her? Is there a certain quantity needed to be confiscated to be considered possession? No warrant was shown for police entry, no Miranda rights were read. The five police officers said they were there because of a prank phone call from that address. (Five officers for a prank phone call? WOW!) Will this charged get dismissed or should we hire a lawyer? Thanks for you help.

Do you have a son, too, that is 19 yrs old and has been in the same kind of trouble for the same thing your 19-year old daughter is? Your 19 year old daughter went into the bathroom to flush the dope down the toilet. The pipe wouldn't flush. You've been a parent for at least 19 years of possibly two college aged kids and want to think your daughter was urinating and was taken into custody unjustly? Sure, you can get her an attorney, but have you considered that she might be better off in a few years if you start saying to her "if you want to break the law, get your own attorney". She'll be pulling some serious time one day in a state correctional facility if you keep this up.
