Question

2001 Georgia DUI

What is the name of your state? Georgia

I was arrested in 2001 in Fulton County Georgia for DUI. After my arrest I was bonded out and told that I would be notified by mail when to appear for arraignment. I assumed this would be in a short time. It has now been over 2 years since the date of my arrest and I have received a summons to appear for arraignment. This time lapse is no fault of my own -- I even contacted the court early in 2002 to notify them that I was moving (locally) and advised them of my new address. My question is this, "What is the Statute of Limitation in the state of Georgia on a DUI charge?" Can they just hold this over a person's head indefinitely and arraign them at any time in the infinite future? I was going through a lot (divorce, wife's infidelity, etc.) in my life at the time that the arrest occured and have since gotten my life back on track and wonder how the state can come after me more than two years later. Anyone with any knowledge or advice on the Georgia Statute of Limitations, please help. Thank you.
