| Fortunately, for me, my browser would only show me her car after the wreck. I can imagine the rest is pretty sad. |

| OMG.. I'm in tears here.. that is the most horrific thing I've ever seen. I think every person arrested for drunk driving should see this ... see what their actions do to innocent people.

| When I see the victims, I say anyone arrested for drunk driving should get life.

| Sadly, on 8/22/03, we had a very similar accident here, only the victim was an 82 year old grandmother. She lived 2 days in critical condition. One of my officers was hospitalized with burns from trying to get her out of her car. There is NO EXCUSE for drinking and driving. Not even one beer. |

More of storyEarly on Sunday morning, September 19, 1999, Jacqueline Saburido, 20, and four friends were on their way home from a birthday party. Reggie Stephey, an 18-year-old star football player, was on his way home from drinking beer with some buddies. On a dark road on the outskirts of Austin, Texas, Reggie’s SUV veered into the Oldsmobile carrying Jacqui and the others. Two passengers in the car were killed at the scene and two were rescued. Within minutes, the car caught fire. Jacqui was pinned in the front seat on the passenger side. She was burned over 60% of her body; no one thought she could survive. But Jacqui lived. Her hands were so badly burned that she no longer can use them. She lost her hair, her ears, her nose, her left eyelid and much of her vision. She has had more than 40 operations since the crash and has many more to go. In June 2001 Reggie Stephey was convicted of two counts of intoxication manslaughter for the deaths of Jacqui’s two friends. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined $20,000. |

| Just saying what I did and urge others to do the same. First off loocpoc, thank you very much for sharing this site. I showed my two boys ages 9 and 12 this site and the affects of drunk driving. After I showed my DH's ex the site she e-mailed our high school guidence counselor. They have a program here called "every 15 minutes" every two years for the junior and seniors where they have a "mock" accident and talk about the affects of DD. The guidence counselor is in charge of it with our school and knows the person that does them all over and said she definately wanted it used. I then e-mailed it to our middle school principal. I think every child.. especially teenagers should see this...

| Thank you Loocpac...for caring enough to share this with us. SOS thanks for the story. I read something in the story that really ticked me off... "In June 2001 Reggie Stephey was convicted of two counts of intoxication manslaughter for the deaths of Jacqui’s two friends. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and fined $20,000." Is that all he got???????? 7 years?? My God, 2 ppl died, and this poor girl is disfigured for life!! This Reggie Stephey should have gotten life. Some ppl may say that he will have to live with what he did for the rest of his life, that in itself is punishment. But so does Jacqui and the families who lost their loved ones. I think he got off too easy.

| It's crap like that that ticks me off.. My BIL was 21 in 2002 and set fire to his g/f apartment.. I know I know.. Of course what he did was wrong. And of course he was intoxicated at the time. I fullheartedly agree with him being punished. However, no one was hurt, killed or mamed. The g/f and her roommates lost a lot of but not all their things and a few others a few things from water. And of course they were all homeless for a night. This is tragic but minor compared to two people losing their lives and what was done to that beautiful girl. My BIL got 30 yrs., 10 suspended... he's not eligible for parole until Jan 2012. After that he's on probation for 10 yrs... 3 of which are on house arrest. This man will be out before he is. He will only have to serve 3.5 yrs. Oh and I forgot to mention my BIL was fined $128,000.

Heart felt, but no justificationWhat I've just seen truly is horrific and a sad fact of life. However, it is not comparitive to reality. Which is, this happens everyday to many people caused my many reasons. I mean it when I say my sorrow for the trauma this young woman has to deal with for the rest of her life strikes me to my soul. However, to punish all people who drink in the same manner one would punish the person that caused what happened to her is sheer ignorance. Yet because of manipulated statistics, propaganda like this, and the amount of money the governments make from enforceing the totally over-reactive laws now in place it happens. And to the VG1013, my morals, inteligence, as well as my character are more then one such as yourself could ever imagine. Also, I too have a gun. After all, law-enforcement has made this a war. Personally, anyone that is so stupid as to condemn an entire group of people based on the actions of a few, I believe should not be allowed to voice an opinion. I've had 2 false DUI charges against me. But without the money to defend myself, as well as the par-se laws, my life has been ruined. People should know what they're talking about before they open thier mouths! Last edited by Flipside13; 09-22-2003 at 12:35 PM. |
