does a lawyer have to keep in touch with you by law concerning your case, or can he ignore your phone calls and 100's of messages?

Why have you called him 100s of times? How long has the attorney been on your case? No he doesn't have to be in touch with you by law. Nor does he have to answer EVERY ONE of your messages.

Is it a PD ?
If your case is progressing, and there are no actions to be completed needing your input before the next court hearing, then the attorney can blow off your phone calls.
You spoke to someone who took the messages (it's a pretty safe assumption he received the messages).

Leave him alone, or fire him and get another attorney.
He may not be able to do anything until the next court date.
The entire office staff must detest you.

You bought a 'slice' of the attorney's time - not enough to spend some of that valuable time reading '100s of messages'.
They don't have much time to 'hold your hand'.

Foolish way to burn up a retainer or jump the price for trial.

At least you should have sent a letter listing all your problems/questions, not 100s of messages.

The point made above is the most logical explanation. Your lawyer has most likely filed whatever needs to be filed. That has some sort of deadline which is forthcoming. Until then, nothing else can be done, nor need be done. He or she probably gave you some idea of how the case would progress, and that's likely what is going down. You may think you should hear from the lawyer, but in all likelihood, you will only ever get to speak to his assistant. That's how it works sometimes.

Reality is the PD is working behind the scenes , and you may only see him in court on court dates you have .

He/she will spend a few minutes with you to go over the progress .

PD's are very busy , often with overloaded case loads .

Remember what you have gone over with you PD , and if / when you go before the Judge and there may be an error , ask your honor for a moment with your attorney , and whisper any discrepancies in their ear .
