da missed first court date

What is the name of your state? california

I was recently chardged with a dui. My court date was set for july 15. At which time I appeared in court and was notified that the DA had not charged me for the crime yet. 2 weeks latter I was sent a letter from the DA's office stating that they were now going to charge me. My question is, If the DA was not able to charge me by the origianal court date can they still charge me and since I appeared in court on the asssighned date are there any actions that I can take
