Dol dmv sos

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Washington

Let me first state that I'm currently in Washington State, am 28 years old, and am trying to get my Washington State Drivers License. After passing the written test yesterday, I was informed of a problem with the dmv in my previous state of residence, Alaska.

This is where it gets tricky.

At the age of 17---
I got caught drinking and was issued a MIP (minor in possession of alcohol) citation and ordered to pay a 150$ fine, and informed that my drivers license would be suspended for a year. At the time I didn't have one and could care less.

Fast-forward a few years
now 21.--
I decide to take the summer quarter off of college in Washington, and spend it back home in Alaska. During the summer I take, pass, and am issued my Alaska drivers license. The summer ends and I return to Washington to attend fall quarter, and hunker down for the winter and grueling academic year. Sometime in November I'm a passenger in a buddies car, and we get pulled over for speeding. The cop runs us all for warrants and then lets us go with a warning, but informs me that he can't return my license because it's be revoked. I don't have a car nor do I drive much, so I figure no biggy....

fast-forward to yesterday
now 28--
The DMV here in WA tells me to contact the Alaska DOL to fix my revoked license there, and then i can continue with the licensing process here.

I contact the DOL in Alaska and am told that to clear my revoked License I need to
1- pay the $100 fee for reinstatement
2- provide them with a letter confirming my attendance of an under 21 alcohol compliance program recognized by the state of Alaska.

At this point I started to get heated, and thanked the nice woman for her help and ended the call.

You see in Alaska the DOL and DMV for my small town, don't have any of the records on site for any cases older than 5 years, all been shipped to the state capital or Juneau, which is 90 miles away from my home town. Many phone calls later . I'm told no one can really tell me exactly why I need to attend this class to get this letter.

On the web I found something about MIP citations that I believe said, Under age drinkers that have a license and receive an MIP citation, as one of the penalties, can be required to obtain such a letter to unsuspended their license. But how could that be relevant to me now, as I didn't have one then.

Short of waiting the next 9 months for someone in AK to straighten out my paper work and find my file in the archives, I'm out of ideas.

Any ideas or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If it's the same site I found, it states the offender's driving priveliges will be suspended. You don't need a license to lose your privelige to drive.

Sounds like a plan.

Contact Sarah Palin. She is working for hockey mom's and joe six packs. And if you had an MIP you would qualify for being a joe six pack. I however am not a hockey mom. Not to mention she is also AK's governor.

Nothing stated by me should be taken as giving you legal advice or forming an attorney/client relationship. The devil is in the details after all.
