Driving On Suspended License...help!!

In December of 04, I was pulled over by an officer and informed that my license had recently been suspended for an unpaid ticket from 02 (for expired tags). I surrendered my license, had someone pick me up, and went back later that night to pick up the car from the lot where I'd left it. Now, I was unemployed at the time and did not have the funds to pay off the ticket, so I continued to drive occasionally (to job interviews, transporting my son back and forth, etc.). Two months later, in February of this year, an officer randomly ran my tags and arrested me for driving on a suspended license. Since the arrest I've paid off the ticket and gotten my license reinstated, however, I have to go to court in mid-April for the arrest and I have NO CLUE what to say to the judge in order to keep him from suspending my license AGAIN for 6 months. I don't even know what to plead, much less what kind of defense to mount afterwards. At this point, I literally cannot be without a license...I JUST found a job, a good one (I start next week), and there's no way possible I can coordinate working and transporting my son to and from daycare w/o the use of a car. To make matters worse, I'm registered to go back to school part-time in June of this year (after a loooong absence), which will make my schedule even tighter (job, daycare, classes). I don't mind paying a fine, but I CANNOT BE w/o a license. HELP!!!!
