driving while license under suspension

Today I was stopped for speeding. I was informed that my Ohio license had been suspended and I was ticketed for the suspended license. I called to find out as I was totally unaware of the status. Apparently over 16 years ago, my ex husband drove a car that was listed in my name and was in a minor fender bender. He took care of his obligations. The car was in my name because his brother had just been killed and even though the car sat unused they put it in my name. I have been in Nc for the past 13 years and had no idea until today. Anyways I called the vehicle department and they said I owe 160.00 reinstatement fee. No problem I will pay before my court day next week. What my fear is, I am going to jail. I have never been in trouble before for anything and people keep telling me I can go to jail for maximum of six months. I was not cited for speeding or anything other than the suspended license. I have no prior offenses. Anyone who could give me some knowledgable advice might help me sleep this next week.

Jail time is very unlikely for first time offenders. If you get your license reinstated before your next court date there is a very good chance they will significantly reduce the fine. Try not to worry about it.
