DuiWashington State I got a DUI and was given the option of pleading guilty and receiving a suspension of license and a $800 fine, or a deferred prosecution, which would entail enrolling into an alcohol program for two years. I was in school at the time so I chose the guilty plea. After my plea was accepted, I was told that I had to have an alcohol assessment done by an outside agency. I did this and was told by the counselor that I had an alcohol problem and would need treatment. I didn't think anything of it because I didn't think I had a problem and just thought that the counselor was trying to get me to sign up for his $3000 program. Well, when I went back to court, the judge ordered me to enroll in the two year program! So, I received both sentences: the fine and the suspension of license, AND the two year program! I have since completed the two year program, but now I'm having a hard time coughing up the (now) $1000 fine. Is there anything that I can do to get out of paying this fine? Thanks. |

| "No. Why do you think fines are imposed?" Did you actually READ the original post? Your response makes me think you didin't, or you didn't understand it. I take responsibility for the DUI, it was my fault, I did it. What I'm concerned about, what I think is unfair, is the imposition of both sentances when I was initially given the option of choosing one of them. I mean, isn't this something my public defender should have warned me about? |

Did he read your post? He probably reads everything on this board. He has nothing better to do at his work. Did he understand it? Duh, he answered it. What you did not understand is that a public defender has a fool for a client.

| I'm assuming that he didn't understand it since he didn't actually answer my quesion. The point is I feel that I got hosed by the judge and would like some suggestions as to whether I could get out of paying the fine since I already completed the alcohol program, which I could have opted for if my PD would have done her job. There is no way that this is fair, so when someone says that "that is what fines are for," if makes no sense. Do you follow? |

No, I usually lead. Nobody here wants to help somebody elude justice. You did wrong and were fined. Now quit snibblin' and pay it, that is what fines are for. |

| Now quit snibblin' and pay it, that's what fines are for. A*- Isn't that a song by Dionne Warwick and Elton John?

| Justice? Can you really be this stupid? This board turned out to be a waste of time, I wrote to my Senator and he has had my fine taken care of, saying that it was unfair to have had me punished twice for the same infraction. Maybe you guys should read these posts a little more closely before you reply to them. I don't know how I could have written it any simpler than did. Consider this the last word: worst board ever. |

| Can you really be this stupid? That's a good one!!!!!Let's recap: "I got a DUI and was given the option of pleading guilty and receiving a suspension of license and a $800 fine, or a deferred prosecution, which would entail enrolling into an alcohol program for two years." .....Anything you say can and WILL be used against you. (Remember that? That's what they said when you were arrested for driving drunk) Ask that question again when you dry up.
