DUI In Missouri

My boyfriend got a DUI in Missouri in February. It's his first offense. Is there a possibility to negotiate with the prosecutor to plea this down to a careless driving instead of a DUI?

Something must have occurred since February, that's almost 8 months ago. He must have some idea at this point what his options are. Did he get an attorney?

court date is Nov. 12. It's been postponed several times (obviously). He has an attorney in Missouri (who is worthless), we live in Minnesota. We'd like it to be pleaded down to a careless (for work related reasons), anyone have any luck with this in Missouri?
