Question

DUI Program ??

What is the name of your state? CA

I was just ordere to attend a DUI program for my first offense DUI and I had a few questions? Has anyone else attended one of these? Are they like classes or more like AA meetings? Are there Random Tests for Alcohol or Drugs, in other words do they drug test? Please let me know.

Mine in Florida was a three day class, all day long. We listened to lectures, watched films, did some worksheets. Breath tests were administered. If you can't quit drinking for the duration of the DUI classes, you probably need to consider AA for yourself. You get a certificate at the end of the class which you'll need in order to eventually get your license back and to be in compliance with the court.

I've never been to one, honest, but I have had some friends go. My best advise is don't get tanked up the day before and to take it seriously. You got the DUI and they are not going to want to hear you try to convince anyone you don't have a problem. Just showing and and putting in the time isn't good enough. Participate fully and be attentive. If they feel you haven't taken it seriously they will report that and it may cause you more grief.

They didn't drug test at the ones I now of...but I wouldn't partake before it if I were you.

Yes, following what Lacy said, I agree that active participation is paramount. The "teacher / counselor" in my class, had the power to determine which people required further counseling and which did not. By getting involved in the discussions, making my points clearly, I was not recommended for further treatment. About half the class was. Do not show up on anything, and that includes being hungover. Remember that the rate alcohol works out of your bloodstream can mean that you still show BAC the morning after.
