First DWI.. Please help advise

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MI - Ingham County

I recently got a DWI. I blew a .13 and I'm pretty sure I passed the sobriety tests. I have no criminal record, maybe one speeding ticket in the last 2-3 years.

At this point I know theres nothing i can do beside get myself some representation.. Its just hard for me to gauge who to hire. My question is.. what should I be looking for- I'm trying to go off of personal reference, but none were strictly DWI.

Lawyer 1 - looked him up, looks like he practices litigation and alcohol beverage control- what is this?. He assured me he has handled many of these cases.

Lawyer 2 - 30 years practicing and he told me the maximum i'll get is a OWI (still kinda bad), but thats the max. He practices federal cases also, like drug smuggling, etc.- does this sound like he has a different specialization than I need?

Lawyer 3 - Criminal justice/personal freedoms cases. Also worked under the prosecutor in that court at one point in time.

Or do I go for a straight up DUI specializing firm from another city? I talked to a really expensive one, they would appoint someone that ''has alot of experience in my court and knows everyone''.

Its good to have a lawyer that knows the prosecutors/judges right? Especially if the client has never been in trouble, and was honest and cooperative as could be. Can anyone please help me with the selection process? Thanks in advance.

The 1st thing you have to figure out is what do you want to do. I mean do you want to plead guilty, or do you think that there was some aspect of the arrest that could possibly get your case dismissed. Plead guilty or go to trial? Ask them the possible outcomes and also take into consideration the price and go from there.goodluck.

Pick a lawyer who specializes in DUI cases and have at it. You're not getting out of it and you most definitely did not pass the field sobriety tests. Your attorney will try and get you the best possible deal, which will likely keep you ot of jail and on some sort of probation. Kiss your license goodbye for a while too. Get ready to take your lumps, move on and learn from the mistake.
