Unhappy

It is hard

What is the name of your state? VA

I posted last month about my experience. I have been extremely worried and sad for what has happened to me (1 st Dui in VA), no accidents, etc. I am still feeling regret and feel completely ashamed and scared; however, I know it is not the end of the world....

I have come to this board everyday since my ordeal to read others' experiences, but I have found out a lot of resentment by many posters. We all come here for advice on a terrible situation, and I know some people are careless with multiple offenses and don't care much. However, I believe the majority of us are normal, hard working individuals who made a terrible judgement call and drove after a few drinks.....My life has changed drastically. I can't sleep, eat, concentrate, or feeling ashamed and sad about my stupidity.

I would like to see more compasion (or abstinence) by others trying to hurt instead of help people in trouble. I know a dui is a terrible crime, but please this is the place for one to vent and ask for guidance not critisism...

With that being said,

Hope nobody here gets in trouble (or trouble again). It is not worth it and makes your life fall apart (in my case for almost 2 months). I know I will be guilty (my lawyer suggested since I refused the breathalizer) but my court day is 3 weeks from now, and I am affraid of the long term consequences of my actions....

Please help others... Thanks What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state?

If you are looking for compassion for people who CHOOSE to drink to excess then put a lethal weapon in their own hands, then use that weapon to the danger of every man, woman and child on the highway, then look elsewhere.

Most of the drunks who come here after making such a choice are only looking to get out of their responsibility to society and we don't have to stand for that.

Alcoholism is a choice. Just as is smoking, having sex without a condom and many other choices in life. Once the drunk who drives realizes that and takes responsibility for it, no one really should give a damn. Because the next victim might be them or their children.

It's good you can't sleep. Maybe now you'll think about how a mother or father feels the next time you get behind the wheel of a car drunk and their child is killed. I bet you won't sleep for a long time after that.

And if you think I don't know you or what you're going through, think again junior. i'm a 32 year sober alcoholic who made a choice to experience life through my eyes and not the bottom of a bottle of Johnny Walker Red. and I began drinking at 12.

so no, no sympathy. I will reserve that for your victims. Because although you may not have killed someone, EVERY alcoholic leaves victims behind. They are just too drunk to notice.

I've worked with DUI defendants for many years.

For me, there are two kinds:
the ones who are shaking in their boots, scared and remorseful....and,
the ones who sailed right through their appearances, without much emotion, other than annoyance at the cost and inconvenience and 'bad luck'**frame-up job' in getting caught.

There's a world of difference between the two.

You get a 'nose' for the ones you're going to see again.
The scared & remorseful were one-time people.
It didn't matter to me whether they stopped drinking - just that they stopped driving after drinking.
(Why do people think only alcoholics drink & drive ? A lot of 'occassional' drinkers are DUIs.)

Traumatized: There are several posters on this board who are proof of one-time DUI offenders who have used that experience to help others (look at BigMistake & others' posts).
They followed the court's orders; they completed all requirements; they are honest about the conviction; they are mindful of what the consequences could have been and are thankful no one was injured/killed. And, they are good people and are helping others.

Life has a lot of hurdles/problems/trials - many we make ourselves.
DUI is one of them, but it can be a ONE TIME only offense.

The other posters are right, in that our families are at risk of being killed by DUI/impaired drivers - so, no wonder people are not 'compassionate'/considerate towards DUIs.

It sounds like you, Traumatized, are in the group who will not do this, again.
Meanwhile, get cracking on setting up rides/public transportation, save your $, and AA probably won't hurt, even for the social drinker.
Stop feeling sorry for yourself; own up to this screw-up & make sure it doesn't happen again.
You can get past this & become stronger for the experience.
And, again, thankfully, no one was injured/killed.

** What a bizarre post. Here's an alchoholic who drank Johnny Walker Red and got lucky he or she didn't kill someone in car. But hey, you got lucky. So fire away.

No, numnuts, I got SMART. And I never drank and drove. You don't get much opportunity to drive when there are little men with black pajamas shooting at you.

Angry

you are full of hate

to BelizeBreeze: i am not looking for compassion, you are so full of hatress and bad feelings. Glad you are sober now because if you were a drunk, you'll probably kill somebody (by the attitute in your post)... Your post is nothing but hate, bad feelings and not forgiveness..that is wrong.....End of conversation...I don't care what you think or post anymore...You don't give advice to anybody, just plain critisism and hate....not good...get a life..oh wait you probably can't drive...
If you ever relapse, kill somebody after 32 years, and come back with your tail between your legs, guess what? go to .....

To garulla lingua: thanks for your words. Yes I made a (bad judgement call - I got that from bigmistakefl) mistake and I am very remorseful. I thought I could drive home ok...1st time and never again...

it will get better with time.. mine happened about 5 months ago and i feel alot better then i did say three months ago..

im getting ready for my trial and im prepared for the worst.. currently working on getting a great job with convienient transportation to get back and forth from..

its weird cause they took my license away for the mandatory three months but i have it back right now.. come around march im sure ill loose it again but who knows

just dont get so depressed about it where it makes you lay in bed all day thinking about how much everything sucks cause you made a big mistake.

and most importantly i reccomend to quit drinking alltogether.. if your serious enough about felling like crap i think naturally you would want to stop drinking.

Belize, what does it say about you that you have 23,000 posts heaping scorn and hate at strangers on the internet?
