What is the name of your state? IL

My boyfriend is about to be sentenced to a 1 year in jail (180 days w/day for day) or 1 year in prison for driving on a suspended liscense. He is thinking about going to prison because he would be classified as minimum security and would probably be out before 6 mo. Is this a smart decision? Does anyone know the major differences between jail and prison? Will he be able to get out sooner? Please help.

jails are typically run by the county and for people who serve less then 1 year or awaiting trail.

Prisons people serving more than one year are usually sent to prisions run by the state.

4th violation

This is his fourth conviction. The other three happened over 5 years ago. He had his RDP but it ran out and his reinstatment hearing was a week away. :(
4th violation for driving on a suspended is 1 year in jail.
