Licensing on DWI SuspensionWell, I've come across this forum and it looks like things can get pretty lively, so let me risk a question. I have a DWI suspension in NJ of a long enough period that I'm thinking of relocating but would like to know which states I'm least likely to have a problem applying for a license in. I'm aware from going through the threads here of the two reporting systems, but what would be my best bet and what are the penalties if/when the new state does catch on? Thanks. Cayce New Jersey |

| I'm not aware of any state that will issue you a license. At the minimum you'll have to lie on your application. All 50 states have NDR access. You certainly aren't going to walk out with a license just because you apply for it. You'll have to lie and state you don't have one and get a learners permit, possibly take driver's ed and a road test. That gives plenty of time to find you out. |

Not Gonna HappenThe system is set up to prevent what you want to do. If the Interstate Compact does not get you the NDR will. Lets say even if you manage to slip past the system at first, once they catch on the DL gets yanked, and you could be charged with a crime for lying on the forms you filled out to obtain the DL. Until NJ releases the hold, no other state will give you a legal DL. Then you are stuck in a new state, with no DL, then what? Are you suspened or revoked?, How long? There is a difference. Another thing to conder if you do get caught driving, NJ will just extend the period of the suspension or revocation, and you could get charged with driving on suspended/revoc. Can you get a conditional or restricted DL from NJ? Nobody gets away with this, if they did, nobody would ever come here, asking this question all the time, but they do. |
